Abstract: Edith Buxbaum and Psychoanalytic Pedagogy in Post-World War II Seattleby Esther A Helfgott (Read about this author in the Member directory.)
This paper examines the roots of Edith Buxbaum’s educational ideas and their application within three Seattle institutions: The Seattle Institute for Psychoanalysis, the Ryther Child Center, and The Little School. The paper demonstrates, through oral history interviews and other primary sources, that Edith Buxbaum’s work in the field of psychoanalytic pedagogy helped Seattle social workers, psychiatrists and educators enhance their ability to help children in the home, in the classroom and in the treatment center.
